Aikido Training

A typical class at North Georgia Dojo consists of a two one hour segments:

The first hour - is dedicated to ki development and the unification of mind and body in relation to self defense and aikido martial art techniques. Although the actual aikido techniques are not taught in detail in the first hour, the essence of the various exercises are present in all of the techniques taught at the dojo. Each centering exercise and drill is broken down and explained in detail during this first hour. Breathing and meditation exercises may be incorporated at the beginning or after the first hour of class.

The second hour - is dedicated to aikido martial arts techniques. These techniques are demonstrated by the Instructor, with the assistance of the Assistant Instructor, or a North Georgia Dojo advanced student. Each technique is then broken down in segments, so that the students can understand the mechanics of the technique as well as the application of the ki development principles demonstrated and practiced in the first hour. Ki-breathing and ki-meditation may be incorporated at the beginning or after the second hour of class.

Body-weight-control and good nutrition are strongly encouraged to become an effective practitioner. Although great flexibility is not required to execute ki-aikido techniques, daily stretching and regular aerobic exercise will greatly enhance your learning experience.
